Don't get attached to mom (Alice Rietveld). She dies in the first scene. Her daughter grows up to be a volcanologist. Jack Harris (Jason Isaacs ) builds a volcano theme park on that same island of Tianhuo, because a T-Rex would be too dangerous. Meng Li (Hannah Quinlivan) who survived the eruption as a child works there installing and monitoring a safety system. Then Pompeii happens and it is everyone to the water.

This is your basic tragedy action film which are all pretty much the same. You have personal drama mixed in with folks running for their lives and heroic rescues.

Another blockbuster volcano movie, this time hailing from mainland China. It's as cheesy and overwrought as you'd expected, with many of those melodrama scenes in which the characters ignore the peril for a while to emote heavily before getting on again with the action. This one was directed by Simon West (of CON AIR fame) and features Jason Isaacs as an Australian businessman who's built a tourist resort on a volcanic island. SKYFIRE, to its credit, has a very fast pacing and gets on with the business of the disaster from the word go, but it's so dominated by repetitive CGI action that it gets tiresome after a while, and the lack of attention to the laws of physics means that it's often ludicrous. On par with the JURASSIC WORLD films but a far cry from my personal favourite volcano flick, DANTE'S PEAK.

Similar film been made by Hollywood 20 years ago and China now make a new one. I would say this one just cannot make as good as Hollywood 20 years ago in terms of visual effect. Start the nonsense now. 1) Explosion without a sign; 2) Stupid Human error cause a sudden drop ; 3) biz man decided to open a theme part next to volcano. All things just too hard to accept to me or the producer thinks the audience are moron? It's a typical movie for excitement but just too hard to convince me the baseline. I rate 2 just because I'm Chinese to support. Sad.
