Saturday Night Fever is thoughtful, engaging, and sometimes brilliant. While some might call it one of the greatest films ever, I must disagree. But along the lines of a groundbreaker, yes it is. The film does for disco what Suburbia did for punk. And the film gives John Travolta, the cool Italian guy from Engelwood, NJ a good break. He plays a paint guy who at nights (and sometimes days) has a love for dancing, which he is absolutely excellent at (those dance scenes are quite memorable). Not always on the money, but when it is, it delivers the goods. Bee Gees provide songs here that everybody likes (I would have to assume from Wayne Campbell's statement in Wayne's World). A-

Plot summary
Nineteen-year-old Brooklyn native Tony Manero lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he's king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside of the club, things don't look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a small paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie Mangano in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to Manhattan just over the bridge soon change Tony's life forever.

The Dancing And The Music Alone Would Have Made It Nigh On Perfect
Travolta and his style are perfect for this film. Then they add love making, a hussie in the back seat being cheap, a lost padre and a shorthaired boyish woman playing hard to get and this is entertaining and amazing!

a- even someone like me who does not appreciate discos or disco music can enjoy it.
B- a person like myself who does not dance can take pleasure in it and
c- You can enjoy after repeated viewings still over 20 years.
Good characters, better acting and an entertaining slice of life that incorporates much.
