JIMMY IS COMING

Jimmy (Liam Neeson) is an old hitman who can't sleep, seeing the faces of those that he killed. He lives his life alone smoking cigarettes and drinking scotch. His BFF and old boss is Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris) who is now an honest businessman, while his son, Danny (Boyd Holbrook) is not. Events happen in which Jimmy's estranged son Michael (Joel Kinnaman) becomes a target for Shawn.

Jimmy aids his son as they "Run All Night" ....and part of the morning too, although that would have made an awkward title.

For those of you felt taken in "Taken 3" Liam plays a similar character, without the electronics. It is action filled with car chases, building fires, minor roof jumping, and plenty of gun action.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Redemption road

Liam Neeson is back in another action thriller as a has been enforcer for local gangster Ed Harris. Harris's son (Boyd Holbrook) is involved in some shady dealings of his own with some foreign gangster types which leads to revenge killings by him.

Neeson's estranged son, (Joel Kinnaman) becomes a target when he witnesses Holbrook kill. Its up to Neeson to protect his son but when he kills Holbrook, Harris wants revenge for the death of his son.

This is in fact a low rent version of Road to Perdition without the style and flair of the Sam Mendes directed film. It also reminiscent of John Wick where Keanu Reeves is being pursued for killing the wayward son of a local mobster.

Its a neo-noir thriller relying on Neeson's badass action guy trying to atone for past sins with his upright son who wants nothing to do with him but belatedly realizes that he needs his father's protection.

Harris is rather wasted in his role, you can kind of guess this was good payday for him. You do wonder how much intriguing the film would had been if Harris and Neeson had swapped roles.

hard Liam Neeson again

Mob hit-man Jimmy 'The Gravedigger' Conlon (Liam Neeson) is a washed-up drunk. His son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) teaches kids at the gym and has disconnected his family from his father. Jimmy is hounded by NYPD Detective Harding (Vincent D'Onofrio). His old friend and mob boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris) rejects his son Danny who brings in an Albanian heroin deal. Danny isn't happy still owing money to the Albanians and kills them. Mike witnesses the murder and gym kid Legs videotapes it. Danny tries to kill Mike only to be taken out by Jimmy. This puts old friends Jimmy and Shawn on a collision course. Shawn hires contract killer Andrew Price (Common) to take out Mike first so that Jimmy could feel the lost of his son.

Lately, Liam Neeson has made a nice living playing this type of character. He delivers another solid tough guy performance. He seems to be a favorite of director Jaume Collet-Serra for his last few films. Joel Kinnaman has the feel of a lesser Neeson. They are a well-matched pair. Ed Harris is great. The movie is probably a bit too long. The last shootout feels over-extended. This movie feels very familiar.
