I really enjoyed and I highly recommend this. If you liked Good Morning Vietnam you will love this one as well.

"From the moment you heard me sing. Since you found me in the cave. Since we were put here on the Earth. Everything in our lives has led us to this time, this place." Richie Lanz (Murray) is a music manager who has fallen on tough times. When he decides to take his client to Afghanistan on tour she freaks out and disappears. Unsure of what to do he thinks his prayers are answered when he hears someone singing in a cave. He really thinks she has the talent to win the Afghan Star singing competition but is hampered by the traditions of the country. This is a great movie. Just flat out great. Not only is Bill Murray good (as always) but the music is great as well. The best way to describe this is a music centered version of Good Morning Vietnam. Funny and smart with a serious topic all holding it together. This is a movie that I really enjoyed and I recommend highly. Overall, if you liked Good Morning Vietnam you will love this one as well. I give it an A-.

After seeing this film, I still don't know if I liked it or not.

I'm really not sure what I thought about "Rock the Kasbah"....and that's unusual for me. Usually, I have strong opinions about movies...but not this time.

Richie Lanz (Bill Murray) is a promoter whose clients are all pretty much third-rate talents. When he hears his assistant sing, he concocts a ridiculous idea...to take her on a USO tour in Afghanistan. Not surprisingly, things fall apart soon after they arrive and Richie finds himself broke, without a plane ticket AND missing his passport! The rest of the film consists of him having various adventures and discovering a musical talent there.

To say I felt confused while watching is an understatement. It didn't seem like a comedy and I really couldn't tell what its message was nor if I even enjoyed it. I wish I had more to say, but it's essentially Bill Murray playing his usual persona in a strange land.

Rocking it

The movie takes a long way to get to its point/goal. For some it may be too long. And while I'm not aware of the real story behind this, I can dig what happened and really like it. It is predictable from a point on forward (maybe that's why it takes so long to get to that point, to stay interested as viewer).

We also have quite a few great actors in this in different roles (some smaller some bigger). If you like them and spot them, it may help you with the "waiting time". Also Bill Murray no matter how sleazy he comes off at the start can pull it off and still be likable. It's just the way it is. Not that we don't know what journey he'll take (not the literal one maybe, but the spiritual one) ... Save the day much Mr. Murray? Or rather not? And what should we make of it? (oh yeah, also amazing soundtrack)
