The Big accomplishment of Real Buddy is the Futuristic universe the filmmakers have created. Clearly working with limited reources, (this no big buget Hollywood film)Director Frank Mirbach and team have used clever and well chosen imagery to depict this futuristic, dystopian world, centered on a high security prison complex. The story is basically a lark, with a surprising and amusing twist, but throughout we are engaged and tickled by this whacky story. All in all well worth the ride.

Dystopian Comedy
great dark comedy
In the not too distant future the cheater Morris find himself in the hardest prison of the world. He's managed to stash a ton of money with clever fandom know-how, and when he gets out he is rich. Too bad that the world is on the verge of doom due to nuclear conflicts. A rather humorous view on that doomsday. It is a very well-made film that really shines in the location, an original 13th citadel including the costuming and incredible props and set design.
If you are a fan of German SciFi, you're gonna enjoy this film.
Oh, this was a fun watch. I first saw the film at the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival. There has been a re-edit since I last saw it at MiSciFi. For one, the cast has a good lineup. Heinrich Schafmeister, has been in Popular TV shows for the past three decades, such as; Wilsberg, Der Staatsanwalt, and Kinder, Kinder spanning over three decades. Eric Gladhart has been in a few films, and Steve Hudson, who has loads of awards from films, True North, Goodbye, and Co/Ma. A little trivia; Hudson's film career got started as an extra in the classic "Full Metal Jacket." Along with a fun set of characters, a hell hole, and a good setup to the story. The practical effects give the film that 80's retro feel. Watching this end of the world comedy came with a twist that I will not spoil.
