RADIUS is another cheap-looking science fiction film made in Canada. The whole thing has that blue-tinted digital look going on, something I personally hate as it makes such films look uniform and depressing. The story has some mysterious merit, with an amnesic protagonist wandering around an archetypal small town and encountering some weird events as he goes. There's not a whole lot of explanation here, but some of the set-pieces are quite interesting; a pity that that the direction is so stultifying, then.

Cheap and digital
intriguing premise
Liam Hartwell (Diego Klattenhoff) wakes up from a car crash with no memories, even his own name. He waves down a passing car and driver dies. He finds a roadside diner and everybody is dead. Fearing toxic air, he barricades himself in a house. He tries to wave off a man but he also drops dead. He approaches a crow and it drops dead. He realizes that he's the cause of the deaths. A Jane Doe (Charlotte Sullivan) happens upon the house and he's surprised that she doesn't die. She is similarly afflicted with amnesia and they are apparently connected through an inciting incident.
I like the initial concept. I'm more leery of the Jane Doe addition and the complication to the initial concept. I'm willing to go with it as long as it gets to a satisfying sci-fi explanation. Then the movie gets to the final reveal. It's a detour to something else. I'm waiting for the sci-fi plot and it does something else. The sci-fi premise seems to be sidelined for this ending. The incident can't be that simple. It needs to be something more. While I appreciate the writing of the twist, it's a detour down the wrong path.
Inside
Or outside as I can see, how some may not be entirely convinced by either the concept of the movie or by its execution (no pun intended). I really liked the idea behind it all, and I didn't read about what I was about to see. So other than the title I knew nothing about the movie. I tend to do that, so the movie can surprise hopefully in a good sense.
So this is a festival film and its target audience is slim one would guess. You have to have a heart for this kind of science fiction "one idea" carrying the movie all the way. I do think the actors are doing a good job overall. It's not easy to convey what the characters have to go through and how to make it convincing and interesting... If you have a bit patience, you will be entertained
