Fantastic Love Story

This wonderful Classic film has entertained people ever since 1948 and it will continue to warm the hearts of all people who fall in love and never stop. Jennifer Jones,(Jennie Appleton) and Joseph Cotton,(Eden Adams) played the role of these two lovers who were real Soul Mates. This film has a very haunting theme with black and white and then a color background. There is a terrifying scene with a sail boat being crashed into the rocks and waves from the ocean beating against a lighthouse almost submerged in water. Eden Adams is calling out "Jennie" "Jennie, Where are You?". Ethel Barrymore, (Miss Spinney) and Lilian Gish gave great supporting roles to make this film even a greater masterpiece for all generations to enjoy.

A Beautiful Love Story

This is a great fantasy story. An aspiring artist who is lacking inspiration meets a pretty young woman in a park. They seem to hit it off. Later, from memory, he paints a portrait of her. He sees this as a kind of masterwork. From that point on, he has several encounters with her. It seems she is getting older, faster, and becoming more and more sophisticated. He also seems to be losing connection with her. This is a loving movie about unrequited love, facing obstacles one cannot overcome. It's also a mystery of the first order. This is a film of consummate beauty and ethereal being. We have to ask ourselves who this woman is and where did she come from.

An amazing and captivating fantasy

This is a super-unusual film about a frustrated artist who is talented but can't seem to find his muse. However, one day he's in Central Park late in the evening and meets a vivacious young lady. While their meeting was brief, he was so taken with her that he later made a sketch of her--and his friends at a local art studio were very impressed and told him he finally was showing his brilliance. However, when Cotten later looked for this girl again, she was nowhere to be seen. Plus, he was really confused about finding her because the information this young lady gave him about her parents made no sense--the theater where she said they worked has been gone many years! However, the story gets a lot stranger from here. When they do meet again several weeks later, she appears several years older! And, whenever they meet in the park over the course of a few months, Jennie seems to continue aging at an accelerated rate AND elements of her story make it seem like she is not living in the same time period that the painter is!! Somehow, inexplicably, she is traveling forward in time to act as the painter's muse!!! All this story is very engaging and quite romantic, as the painter obviously is falling in love with her. Both Joseph Cotten (the painter) and Jennifer Jones (Jennie) did a marvelous job, but kudos should also be given to the supporting actors, Ethel Barrymore (she was wonderful),Cecil Kellaway and Lillian Gish. And, the production was lovingly made and quite creative. This is a wonderful little "sleeper" that is well worth watching today--even though it's been all but forgotten over the years. In many ways it reminds me of the film THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, though the MUIR film is a bit better and even more romantic. But, I strongly recommend you see both--especially if you watch it with someone you love.
