no no no

Marla Brenner (Anya Taylor-Joy) is getting ready to tell her parents that she's postponing college for traveling around the world. Suddenly, she gets the terrible news of her parents' death. It's 4 years later. The previously adventurous Marla is working a dead-end job and taking care of her younger brother. He's tired of her no-fun lifestyle and sneaks off to a toy fair.

I remember this movie came and when. I didn't remember that it had Anya Taylor-Joy. This is essentially Playmobil trying to follow Lego footsteps. It's not as fun. The song are not fun. The story has nothing new. There is a general tonal cynicism whether one sees this as a full length commercial or an attempt at copying a rival. Non of it is good. At a certain point, I just got bored.

Joy

Anya Taylor Joy that is - she seems to be everywhere. Or is it me who sees her everywhere? Or was it just the Queens Gambit? And that X Men movie that's called something else (New Mutants) that was shot a long time ago? Whatever it is, here she is again. And the Playmobil movie goes off with songs too. Yes whatever worked with the first Lego movie, may work here too, right? Sort of is the answer.

Because the Lego movie (the first one at least) worked quite the wonders. And while this starts off in the real world, with quite the dark beginning a couple of minutes into it, this also delves into fantasy. Overall it is entertaining enough and has enough jokes to keep you interested over the whole running time. I also think I was able to guess some of the voice actors - which is always fun too. Oh this is a commercial for Playmobil stuff? Who'd have thought ... the shocker!

A lovely treat for children and adults alike...

I sat down to watch the 2019 animated "Playmobil: The Movie" with my son. I hadn't even heard about this movie prior to stumbling upon it. And since I grew up playing with Playmobil, and my son now does so as well, of course we sat down together to watch this movie.

The movie is a little bit slow to start, but once the main characters become changed into Playmobil things brighten up and the movie takes a turn for the better.

First I will say that the storyline was pretty good. Sure, this was a children's movie first and foremost, but it actually had enough contents to it so that I, as an adult, actually always enjoyed the movie.

The CGI was just spectacular, and it was such a blast to watch Playmobil brought to life on the screen in this manner. There is an abundance of details in many scenes, and you'll probably not even notice half of them. My son, for example, he didn't even notice the Ghostbusters vehicle on the express way. So there is a lot to take in, and I believe that fact alone actually makes this movie well worth watching a second time. The first time is for the storyline, whereas the second is to take in all the details.

There is a good feeling to the storyline, and the movie is definitely enjoyable. Not only because of the good CGI and the storyline, but also because of the characters. There was a good amount of nicely fleshed out characters throughout the course of the movie. And while this is an animated CGI movie, having a good and talented cast for the voice acting is a must. And they definitely had that for "Playmobil: The Movie".

It was nice to see Playmobil put in a chip on the animated movie market with this movie, and it was a much needed breath of fresh air from all the Lego movies. Not that there is anything wrong with Lego, not at all, but variety and a change of scenery makes a great change.

"Playmobil: The Movie" is well worth sitting down to watch, and I am rating it a six out of ten stars.
