I don't care what they all say, it's got a creepy vibe to it.

It's not very good, but it isn't nearly as bad as some reviewers here are making out. Personally i found it far more entertaining than drek like Stay Alive and Cry-Wolf, whilst tagging it the worst film of the year when the likes of Untraceable are on the market, beggars belief. Remaking Japanese horror is getting stale, if it was ever really fresh that is, so with that in mind i feel the hatred and backlash for this latest American remake has a touch of "stop remaking already". One Missed Call {Japanese original Chakushin Ari}is creepy enough, from little eerie dolls and grotesque figures to a seriously unnerving ring tone, it works as the most basic of chillers when watched alone in the dark. You will find that Final Destination and The Ring will come springing to mind as you watch this one unfold, so no great prizes for originality for sure. The acting of course is sub-standard, even Ray Wise seems to be the bread part of a camp and ham sandwich, the directing is sloppy and the ending frustrates as much as it intrigues, but the picture is creepy, and for that alone it's far more entertaining than the ream of gorno slashers that dumb the screens every other week. 5/10

Another failed American remake of Japanese horror

People receive voice mails from the dead with messages of their deaths in the near future showing the time and date. Leann Cole (Azura Skye)'s friend Shelley dies in a supernatural drowning. Leann receives a call from Shelley with a voice mail of her death. She starts to have bizarre visions and she gets killed by supernatural forces while on the phone with her friend Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon). Beth's boyfriend Brian Sousa (Johnny Lewis) had also gotten a phone call and gets killed. Det. Jack Andrews (Edward Burns) is investigating after the death of his sister which seems to be linked. Then Beth's roommate Taylor Anthony (Ana Claudia Talancón) receives the call. TV producer Ted Summers (Ray Wise) comes sniffing around.

It's yet another American remake of a Japanese horror movie. The CGI is weak. It would be much better to use real effects more. Instead of CGI bugs, they should use try and true real bugs. There is a general lack of horror atmosphere. The movie shows all of its tricks rather early with Leann's death. It doesn't leave much for the rest. It basically grinds on and on with a boring investigation. Sossamon tries her jumpy best, but the movie never really ramps up the thrills.

Another Unnecessary Remake of an Asian Horror Movie

After the death of their friend Shelley (Meagan Good),the teenager Leann Cole (Azura Skye) receives a voice mail from the future telling the date and time when she would die. On the scheduled day, Leann sees weird things and in the precise informed hour, Leann is attacked by a supernatural force on a footbridge over a train station while talking to her friend Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) that witnesses her violent death. Beth meets Leann's boyfriend Brian (Johnny Lewis),who also received a call, and witnesses his death on the street. When her roommate Taylor Anthony (Ana Claudia Talancón) receives a call, Beth befriends Det. Jack Andrews (Ed Burns),who tells her that his sister was the first victim of the phone call. They decide to investigate the connections of Jack's sister and find the name of Marie Layton (Rhoda Griffis),who apparently abused of her daughters. Jack and Beth run against time trying to save Beth from her fate.

"One Missed Call" is another unnecessary remake of an Asian horror movie. However, like in the original "Chakushin Ari", this remake has a promising beginning and a disappointing conclusion. My expectation was that the screenplay writer could improve the confused conclusion of "Chakushin Ari", but he basically kept the same. Anyway this movie is not as bad as indicated in IMDb User Rating. My vote is six.
