Essentially just another stereotypical werewolf movie...

I stumbled upon the 2010 horror/thriller "Neowolf" (aka "The Band from Hell") in 2021. And of course with it being a horror movie then I took the time to sit down and watch it, as it was a movie that I hadn't already seen before.

And I will say that while "Neowolf" is a watchable movie, it just fell short of being an overly memorable or entertaining movie. It was a bit too monotonous and bland for a werewolf movie. And it was definitely a movie that had come in under the radar back in the day for me. Just as it is a movie that will just as quietly slip back into oblivion without having left any lasting impression on me.

The acting in the movie was actually fair enough, though the actors and actresses had very little solid material to work with in terms of an interesting storyline or properly fleshed out, pardon the pun, characters here.

Visually then "Neowolf" was just another generic werewolf movie, though you shouldn't expect any impressive transformation scenes. Nor should you expect to see some impressive creature designs on the werewolves when they have shapechanged.

"Neowolf" is a very bland experience, and as such my rating of it lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Woof

So this rock band, led by a man known only as Tony, comes back to his old college to win back his ex-girl Rosemary, but the band Neowolf gets in the way. Soon, people are turning up dead and yes, werewolves come on the scene. Bark at the moon, indeed.

Director Yvan Gauthier took his name off this, so he's listed as Alan Smithee.

This is probably the most interesting part of this movie: The sex scene with Rosemary is not actress Heidi Johanningmeier, but a body double hired by producers months after the film wrapped. That happens all the time, except that no body double credit is on the film and Johanningmeier went to the Screen Actors Guild and won her case.

Boring, Poorly-Constructed Film

A young, struggling musician (Michael Frascino) is torn between his pursuit of rock stardom and his girlfriend. When a traveling rock band, Neowolf, comes to town, the choice gets even more difficult: the bandmates seem to be a pack of werewolves, and there's no time for love when you're on the hunt for human flesh.

Let's just say this film is bad beginning to end. I don't want to sugar coat it, or give anyone a reason to see it. I'm not even sure how you can find a copy, but if you can, just ignore it and hope that it crawls under a rock and dies.

The story isn't interesting, the characters have no depth, the songs are too many and not particularly good, the camera work is so poor that this lies between home video quality and the SyFy Channel. I'm not sure what possesses people to assemble a cast to make bad movies, but they must be stopped. If you know you make bad movies (Charles Band, this is you) that's one thing. But if you think you're striking gold and you uproot a lump of petrified dog waste, please retire.

What caused me to watch this rather than "Drive-In Massacre", was the inclusion of our dear friend Tiffany Shepis on the cast list. Sadly, if that is your reason for watching, you'll be let down. Her role is largely unnoticeable. I thought she had a small role in "Live Evil", but here I just didn't even see a point of having her. It gave the film a bonus bump it did not deserve.

Long story short: disposable, forgettable film that I wouldn't waste my time on if I hadn't already.
