Compelling and An Important Documentary To Watch

While I do not usually review documentaries, this one stands out.

This is Taylor Swift's own film about her own story. It does not focus so much on extended pieces of her famous songs. Instead this documentary relies on Taylor Swift as a human being and good storytelling. Miss Americana is a rather intimate, inside story about her own growing up in the music industry, what it is like to experience triumph and shame. Surprisingly, this is an engrossing and ultimately compelling story about being a female singer who rose to fame, experienced humiliation, and came back to tell your own story. It is ultimately about an uplifting, inspirational message to the young and the future of America.

Taylor's Unfiltered Life

I have been a fan since grade school and this film reinforces my love and admiration for Taylor Swift. This film touches upon the hardships and unfiltered experiences she has gone through.

Taylor's cat is sooo cute - she has this scared, innocent look on her face. Her ears fold back. Taylor reads her old diaries including one she started back when she was 13-years-old.

There is always this pressure to do better than what you did before. There is a pressure for your newest work to be better than the last - for Taylor it means her newest album should be more successful than the last. We see her talk on the phone about her music not getting nominated. Taylor's response is very calm.

I love Taylor's mother's calm and clear voice. She's such a good mother and comforts Taylor.

Taylor talks to her male music writer about turning 29. The male says he remembers that time. Taylor talks about feeling not ready to grow up and having kids. The man says he thinks there is never a time where you are, you just deal with it when it comes.

There is also this question you have once you have reached the top of the mountain - where now? What should one do once they have reached the "maximum"? Taylor has proven herself and been successful in the biggest awards twice.

Taylor also touches upon the awkward drama she has been through particularly the Kanye West feud. Poor Taylor is asked if she was a fan of his and she said yes, it's Kayne. She is then asked if she still is and she says she doesn't know him personally and doesn't want to start anything. Her voice is so soft when answering.

Taylor explains throughout her entire life she has a moral code of being nice. Do the right thing. I relate to Taylor so much for this and understand her explanation in this part. A nice girl doesn't force her opinions on people. A nice girl waves and greets people.

Taylor also speaks about her weight. She has learned looking at photos and videos of herself everyday is not good for her. She gets insecure about her tummy especially in photos. She speaks about how she didn't eat as much before and had felt it was normal to feel faint during performances. She now tells herself we do not go there when she starts thinking of herself as fat.

Clips of Taylor first starting out as a teen and in early twenties are shown. She looks beautiful and I remember seeing them as a kid.

Taylor doing a fan meet is shown. She is so kind to her asian fans. I love her approachable vibe and kindness. A man proposes to his girlfriend in front of Taylor at the fan meet.

Taylor also speaks about how women have a "shelf life" in the industry - once you turn 35 society pushes you out. Female celebrities are always reinventing themselves, showing new facets of themselves to stay "fresh", "young". Taylor wants to work as hard as possible as she can while society still "accepts" her.

Taylor has a meal at her home with a childhood female friend. They talk about people they know having kids and Taylor points out motherhood is like Tamagotchi.
