Good Slash Thriller

A group of seven FBI trainees is sent to an isolated island for the final stage of their training period under the direction of the eccentric Jake Harris (Val Kilmer),who uses questionable methods. However, they are attacked and killed by a serial killer that can be one of the team members. The tension increases amidst the group with the lack of confidence on each other.

Although not being exceptional, "Mindhunters" is a good thriller and slash movie. The tense story is original, mixes horror, thriller, action, crime and mystery and the resolution is not bad. This is the type of movie that entertains and I liked it. My vote is seven.

Nothing new but entertaining

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much when I sat down to watch Mindhunters, but I found myself pleasantly surprised. Is the film perfect? No, the basic idea has been done to death and there are some scenes that don't hold much surprise, while some of the dialogue and characterisation is on the clichéd side and there are two performances that didn't quite work, LL Cool J, who is better as a rapper than as an actor here he tries to be too cool and comes across as annoying, and Patricia Velasquez, whose performance is sexy but very laboured. That said, Val Kilmer's character is the most interesting and he is quite charismatic in the time he has, Kathryn Morris is tolerable, Christian Slater is okay and Johnny Lee Miller is reliably good as he always is. The story while basically not the most original film on the planet, is tense, mysterious and atmospheric, the dialogue that is not clichéd is entertaining, the film is decently paced and moves at a cracking pace, the solution is interesting and plausible and the photography, editing and lighting add very well to the atmosphere. In conclusion, I liked it, despite it not being more than it could've been. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Mindless

Jake Harris (Val Kilmer) runs a training program for FBI profilers. It's above and beyond the normal gun training. He takes the team to Oniega Island off the coast of North Carolina to take part in a simulation. Philadelphia P.D. detective Gabe Jensen (LL Cool J) tag along to observe. They are assigned a serial killer called the Puppeteer. However the killings soon become real.

It's an Agatha Christie murder mystery crossed with the modern trend of serial killer and FBI profilers. The problem is that it's so completely fake. I'm not saying murder mysteries are always about realism. There is something over the top ridiculous about this that drains the brains out of this thriller. I'm not invested in guessing who is the real killer. It becomes how crazy each perfectly timed kill gets. That has a bit of value but not that much.
