Awesome .............not

Director was told by Asylum studio: here's a thousand dollars, see what you can do. After pocketing 900 dollars for himself, he went to the nearest bar with the remaining $100 and hired some random people to make this incredible film. The results are here for you to joyously experience. Go ahead I dare ya.........

Cheesy, but watchable, shark feature...

First of all, the movie's title doesn't really call out top notch entertainment. But hey, this is a creature feature with a massive prehistoric shark, so of course I had to watch it.

Then the movie started with the logo from The Asylum, and let's just face it, The Asylum is not exactly a company that you associate with great movies, nor particularly great effects. But still, every now and again The Asylum actually manage to churn out something that is actually not too shabby and watchable.

Luckily then "Megalodon Rising" turned out to be one of those rare instances. Sure, it wasn't because of a particularly interesting storyline written by Andrea Ruth that the movie was watchable, nay. It was actually, and I am not kidding here, because this was a shark movie and the sharks actually looked fairly okay - even for a movie from The Asylum. So yeah, that was definitely working in favor of the movie.

Visually then I have to say that "Megalodon Rising" is among some of the better movies that The Asylum has been spewing out. The sharks actually looked adequate and had some realistic touch to it. Sure, I wasn't particularly a fan of the lumpy heads the CGI team went with, but they actually managed to make convincing enough CGI sharks for the movie. Now, the movie's cover had a normal looking shark on it, oddly enough that was nowhere to be seen in the movie.

Oddly enough, The Asylum still reverts to using the good old thing with recycling and reusing previously used footage in the same movie again and again.

The cast in the movie was for the majority actually fair enough. Nothing overly astounding to be witnessed here, but at least the actors and actresses managed to stay afloat, no pun intended, and delivered more than what I have come to expect from a movie spawned by The Asylum. Now, if I have to point out a single performer that stood out here, then I would point at Freda Yifan Jing (playing Dr. Lee).

If you enjoy a good old fashioned cheesy shark movie, then "Megalodon Rising" actually makes for an okay enough viewing. Nothing great here or memorable, mind you, but the movie was fair enough for what it turned out to be. It is, however, the type of movie that you watch once and probably never ever again.

My rating of director Brian Nowak's 2021 movie "Megalodon Rising" lands on a mediocre five out of ten stars.
