I absolutely loved the movie despite some predictable elements. But the acting is phenomenal. George Mackay just lives the character of Jack, its hard not to shed tears for him, feel his anxieties and emotions. It mainly deals with the trauma and challenges kids have to face when a parent is extremely abusive. Even if they find a way to escape the situation, the societal laws and challenges make it difficult to survive. Jack is the protector of his 3 siblings from his abusive father and society which wants to separate them as his mother has died. The whole movie is on Jack's fight for survival which at one point threatens his existence. The 3 other kids were fantastic and Anya Taylor Joy is again perfect as Jack's girlfriend who loves him unconditionally.

However if you are easily disturbed and are in a low mood, please avoid as it does affect you.

THE SECRET OF MARROWBONE is a film for those of us who supposed that Spain had stopped making high-quality ghost stories in recent years (after the likes of THE ORPHANAGE wowed us a decade ago). The good news is that it's every bit as well-made as the earlier classics, albeit with a more familiar storyline containing twists that aren't too hard to figure out if you have any familiarity with the genre. The horror elements are kept to a minimum and all the more effective for it, while the character-focused narrative has just the right diverse mix of elements to make it work. The calibre of the acting is undoubtedly above par, while the cinematography brings out the best of the glorious setting.

This is quite twisted in more than one way. And it is suspensful enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm not sure how any knowledge before watching this will affect your enjoyment, but try to read as little as possible. If you don't horror and scenes that will spook you one way or the other, than this movie will catch you and never let you go.

It is really a thrill ride and it works on so many levels it is quite strange. I was engaged from start to finish. Even when I didn't agree with what main characters were doing, it made sense. And even when thinking back about stuff that was happening, it makes sense. And you can rewatch this and find new stuff that you might have missed the first time around. Fantasy, Horror and Drama mixed to almost perfection
