Okay Reviewers!!!!

You must not know a soldier with PTSD!!!!!! This should be an academy winner for Shia. I was in tears!!! And I know personally the effects war has on soldiers. Shame on you for the low ratings. It was the most emotional movie I have seen and that little boy wins my heart. I loved it. Haters just need to go watch some fake fantasy something or other.

my notes

So boring. it barely kept my interest. i finished it on fast speed. it was very emotional and about feelings and lameness. if this movie went in a different direction and was done right, it could have been great. shiah was good (1 viewing)

SPOILERS

this movie had a really cool twist. unfortunately it was executed poorly and surrounded by a boring movie. we thought he was in a post apocalyptic world, when he was just a crazy homeless vet who created a delusion for himself to cope with what happened in the war along with how his wife cheated on him. it was a really good twist that was wasted, and is the only reason i didn't give this movie half a star. i really hated that the movie took the route of the cheating girlfriend. also, there was another "twist" that i figured out way earlier than the "reveal," that his friend is already dead and he's imagining talking to him

jumble

This movie jumps around in time and in genres. Gabriel Drummer (Shia LaBeouf) is a marine with his comrade Devin Roberts (Jai Courtney) searching for his family in a post apocalyptic America where they encounter Charles (Clifton Collins, Jr.). Gabriel is being treated by therapist Captain Peyton (Gary Oldman) for unknown traumas. He has a loving family with wife Natalie (Kate Mara) and a young son. He's a recruit being trained by Sergeant Miller (Tory Kittles).

I'm sure that Shia could do a troubled soldier's story. I'm sure that he could do a post apocalyptic story. I'm not sure that he can do both at the same time in this jumbled way. I don't think anybody can. It's obvious early on that this jumble is not so simple. The final reveal is one of the more likely scenarios. It's not satisfying since it's a writer's trick and also not done well. The only way to do this is a full-on apocalypse movie with some limited flashbacks to fill out the back story and a big reveal to wrap it up. The general concept is noteworthy but the execution is muddled. It's a basic flaw in the movie.
