Not to say it's anything close to good, but it did surprise me ever so slightly

Not actually terrible. That's not to say it's anything close to good, but it did surprise me ever so slightly; especially after an extremely ropy first 5-10 minutes.

Ricardo Hurtado (Tyler) is OK as the film's lead, while Alkoya Brunson (Eric) has most of the somewhat amusing moments. The premise is watchable, though only after the awful initial school scenes that made me fear the worst. Once they reach Malibu everything does move in the correct direction - still with some major issues, of course.

There's also a running gag throughout featuring Michael Mourra (Jeffy),which is mildly funny; he's used for the predictable interludes, but it is done in a way that is kinda different. I appreciate that.

Great call making 'Malibu Rescue' run for just 69mins, any longer would have deteriorated my rating massively. I see this has also turned into a television series, I'm not sure I could put up with it for 8 episodes; though I'll probably return when the sequel film is released.

"Sink or Save"

Really good watch, probably won't watch again, but can recommend. (Was excited to see there is a sequel)

A "troupe of misfits", "coming of age" story that is very well produced. Disney likes to push the "throw enough money at it" concept, but a good movie / show / franchise doesn't come together without a good cast that works well together. This movie has a fun cast that really embodies their characters.

Overall humor is good, but it's about a California beach for privileged people, so you can only do so much with it. They specifically had to use a group of characters that "don't belong there", and that's all based on a California inside joke of the "valley" now being a place where poor (average) people live.

A movie where "ha ha, you don't even have a butler" could be a conceivable joke is never going to be great unless that is the entire focal point of the movie ("Would You Rather", "Knives Out", "Paradise Falls"),and even then it needs both unique and great itself.

This might be great for younger audiences, but most adults are likely to go, "Sure, that was good" and then never think about it again.

Stereotype antagonist characters

Man, I'm so tired of uppity antagonist ALWAYS being Caucasian male. Its so social media programing.

One very odd thing about this formula is that it means most movies employ more C. males than other races, because the 'bad guy' is always C male, while the 'good guys' are usually a selection from each race.

Some of the modern TV series are starting to insert various races into the antagonist character, (more acting jobs for the minority races)

There were some running gags in this that made it funny, but for me the constant pounding of the Evil C. male eventually had me turning it off about half way through.
