Good enough

If you're Kento's fan, or even if you just like japanese movies, you'll know that his speciality is high schoolers. He plays a high school boy (again) this time though not in a romantic shoujo comedy. Rather, it's about four students who are trying to solve a mystery of the past. The mystery itself isn't that interesting, though the story is kind of entertaining, with the flashbacks and the small other cases that are solved. Other than that, the movie hasn't anything else to offer. Basicly, there is no romance, no friendship dynamics, no slice of life high school nostalgia, no deep character development. So, why watch it? For the small mysteries the students are solving, and maybe if you're a Kento fan.

I honestly prefer this over the anime.

I just decided to watch this for Kento Yamazaki and ended up enjoying watching this adaptation a lot. The problem I had with the anime was that it had too many parts that aren't that necessary. This adaptation managed to capture the essence of Hyouka. We lost the beautiful visuals of the anime, but we got to focus on the actual mystery that the Hyouka story had, and honestly, there was an improvement here. It gave out more feels and was able to break my heart in a new way. There was a less bonding experience here between the characters, but it was alright for me. I still liked the friendship between Oreki and Satoshi. Kento Yamazaki was great in his performance as Oreki. I prefer him over the anime version. Alice Hirose was alright, but I didn't feel like she was able to embody Chitanda's enthusiasm.

I'm being honest here....

This movie is basically trash, ok maybe not because this movie is like a short version of an amazing anime called 'hyouka'. If you haven't seen the anime then go watch it, don't waste your time on this movie. The casting was horrible, the cast couldn't come close to perfection (no offense, but that was the truth). The anime was really good, but this movie was so damn bad, the only reason I'm giving this movie a 7 because it's based on "hyouka", otherwise I would have given it 2 or 3.
