Really there was not any horror elements to this film. More of a Drama, and somewhat a mystery, but not by much. As another review mentioned the ending seemed rushed and was really ineffective in giving the movie a good stamp. Can not recommend.

Plot summary
Upon the news from her police sergeant paternal uncle Rupert Woodhouse of her father Joe Woodhouse, a former prison guard, being on his deathbed, Samantha Woodhouse, a police detective herself, returns to her small hometown of Hellmington to be by her father's side, despite they having been estranged for years. Gasping for his last breaths, Joe blurts out the name Katie Owens just before he dies. Katie was the daughter of Vic Owens, a prison guard colleague of Joe's, and a classmate of Sam's who went missing shortly after their high school prom almost twenty years ago. Vic, too, disappeared mysteriously before Katie. Katie's disappearance was never solved, although her boyfriend at the time, Brad Kovacs, was always suspected of having something to do with it. Brad has always asserted that Katie went missing after receiving an invitation to go to an occultist meeting, the occult which she was researching at the time and in which she had always believed. Because of Joe's dying words, Sam feels the need to revisit the whole issue of Katie's disappearance despite they being less than friends, they who traveled in different social circles - Sam among the popular kids, and Katie and Brad among the outsiders - and Sam having assaulted her at prom, which was their last encounter. Her investigation is with or without her uncle's blessing. Sam looks into all these aspects - the occult group, pointed to among the evidence, being the Revenians - but she also has to dig up her own painful past in the process, including the death of her daughter, Ashley Woodhouse, in a fire.

Would be very good if not for the rushed and stupid ending...
Would be very good if not for the rushed and stupid ending... All movie it was very captivating and engaging...good story, acting, build up... the last 5 minutes spoiled everything...would be a solid 6 stars.
Interesting!
Writer-directors Justin Hewitt-Drakulic and Alex Lee Williams created this film about the sleepy village of Hellmington, a place that Detective Samantha Woodhouse (Nicola Correia-Damude, The Strain) thought she left behind ten years ago. That said - as much as you can never go home again, you probably shouldn't.
All those years back, troubled high school senior Katie Owens mysteriously vanished. That ties into why Samantha is back, beyond the fact that she's dealing with the death of her estranged daughter. She's also dealing with the death of her daughter, an event that has destroyed her marriage and career.
Soon, she learns that her father's death is one of many that ties into Katie Owens. There's also the matter of her insomnia, hallucinations, self-doubt and a centuries-old cult that runs the town.
This film was the winner of the 2015 Cinecoup Film Accelerator Challenge, which granted them a million dollars in financing. The original version of the film was a documentary that only focused on the Katie Owens disappearance, but the final film ended up becoming a narrative story.
The filmmakers spent their money the right way, getting great actors like Correia-Damude, who they've said was the reason the film was able to finish on time (she supposedly nailed 9-12 pages of script a day, an amazing feat) and Michael Ironside (Starship Troopers),who was the selling point to get me to watch this.
Between the arty shots and the soundtrack by Cults, this film aspires more to the arthouse than grindhouse. If you're a fan of True Detective, you'll see its influence all over the film. That said, for young filmmakers making a film that's pretty much going direct to streaming, it's head and shoulders above the competition.
