A real piece of trash

HELL RIDE is an attempt at a modern day biker movie, a throwback to the popular sub-genre of the '60s and early '70s. Apparently, executive producer Quentin Tarantino told writer/director/star Larry Bishop to make the "greatest biker movie of all time", so the guy certainly had his work cut out. Unfortunately, what he's done is exactly the opposite – he's managed to create one of the dumbest biker flicks ever made.

Larry Bishop seems to think he's God's gift to film-making, but in reality he's a complete joke. His direction is flat and boring, and his script is even worse; none of it hangs together, and the dialogue is forced and cheesy beyond belief. Bishop's an even worse actor and I hated the smarmy, supposedly charismatic gang leader he plays here; this is a complete vanity project and it's excruciatingly embarrassing for all involved.

The rest of the movie seems to consist of washed-up actors wondering what happened to their careers. Dennis Hopper gives a performance the gist of which makes you think he smoked a little bit too much of that dope back in the day; Michael Madsen is just bored and boring, and doesn't even try. Vinnie Jones is a stock villain with zero character development, and the less said about David Carradine's cheesy cameo the better. At least Tarantino had the good sense not to appear.

So, in all, this is an awful, awful film. No action, no acting to speak of, poor dialogue and a worse story that meanders all over the place in search of meaning. It also manages to exploit women something terrible, so it's memorably sleazy at least, but that's it.

bikers and babes

This is a biker flick. There are a few known actors among them. There's something about money, and something about the past. The gang is concerned about a rival gang. The story is a mess of boredom and confusion. Larry Bishop seems to have done a bunch of biker films back in the day and worked a bit with Tarantino. The man only has a few writing credits and it shows. It's not cohesive writing. It's mostly posing. The most memorable scene is pissing on Dennis Hopper's boots. The best thing he does is to cast a whole lot of beautiful babes. The snarky comment would be calling them a bunch of strippers. Hollywood has plenty of beauties willing to take it off for the camera but they aren't always strippers. All I can say is that they are probably the highlight of the film.

tribute to biker films of the 70's

While most critics were harsh on hell ride,i thought it was a really good biker movie, sort of reminded me of the 1970's biker flicks by American international.a very good cast led by Micheal Madson, and smaller roles by Dennis Hopper and David Carridine.pretty violent and has the Quentin Tarentino trademark.would have been a good drive in flick.features some great music on the soundtrack like cc rider.which was a biker movie from 1971,with Joe Namith, and William Smith,if you like good biker flicks and exploitation, then hell ride is for you.all i can say is i liked it.and i like Tarentino movies.too bad William Smith and Peter Fonda were not in this.but then again it still works.7 out of 10
