A three-hander with potential

Yet another entry in the endless cycle of recent movies made by Nicolas Cage. He's not in this one much, playing a background presence until the extended climax. This one is a throwback to '90s B-cinema, an essential three-hander in which Cage and his wife are maladjusted and broken apart by the introduction of a young, masculine handyman into their remote home. The action takes place over a single day and night although there's some boring police procedural stuff that's included merely to pad out the running time. Cage goes haywire at some point, which is inevitable at this point in his career, but despite some elements of suspense this goes on too long and features a ridiculous climax which doesn't help it.

Good fences make good neighbors

Buddy (Luke Benward) married his high school sweetheart (Emily Marie Palmer) and has an infant to care for. Unable to make ends meet, he takes a job to fix a white picket fence for Walter (Nicolas Cage). Walter insists the job be done in one day and pays a bonus as Buddy works into the night with a storm brewing. Buddy spends the night and fends off Walter's wife Fancy (KaDee Strickland). Then the plot gets twisty. TV reports missing teens.

I don't know how Hollywood is going to make films in Louisiana once Cage is gone, which is maybe why they are making everyone imaginable right now. If you like Cage matches, this film should be in your wheelhouse. Otherwise, it is just your average twisted drama.

Guide: F-word. Implied sex. Near nudity.

Not so grand after all

Have you been wondering why Nicolas Cage is doing so many low budget movies, mostrly in the thriller and/or action genre? Or just wondering how he never seems to cross beams/movies/roles with Bruce Willis? Maybe it is the latter, maybe you don't even care. This can be considered an erotic thriller I reckon, though ... well don't expect to be swayed or enticed in a ... grand style! No pun intended.

Having said that and while Cage has his moments and his wife in the movie also can convey the feeling of femme fatale to a degree the twists and turns somewhat work ... the movie lacks conviction and has a lackluster third main character who can't seem to get it ... I mean our hopes up! Again no pun intended! And that ending may very well be one of the worst ... ok I should not be so dramatical ... let's just say it made me go lower than I thought. And yet I still am nice to it, because I kind of liked the rest in a weird way ...
