I was absolutely in love with "Gogol. Nachalo" and couldn't wait to see the sequel. It's awesome. "Viy" differes from the first part, but in a good way. Again, all the actors are great, the decorations, costumes and makeup are wonderful. Thank you for it))) Now I'm longing to see how it all will end.

A Russian fantasy sequel to "Gogol: The Beginning (2017). Again, Nikolai Gogol, the leading character from the 2017 film, a young man who suffered unpredictable violent epileptic seizures, but during such seizures he would visualize something mysteriously happen in the dark world. This time, a serial killer has already murdered eleven women around a village, rumors spread by the villagers claiming the killer is a dark horseman. Gogol is ordered to investigate the murder cases, instead of going nowhere to solve it, he's beginning to suffer macabre visions more and more during his investigation, then he suddenly learns the next victim would be his girlfriend, Liza. But he doubts his ability won't stop what's gonna happen. Then he accidentally meet a witch hunter, Khoma Brut, with him they stay in an old church and asking the witch, Ulyana, to call up the evil spirit Viy to help fencing off the coming murder.

Chronicles part 2
Russian movies have done quite the leap in the Science Fiction department. The first part may have looked a bit like a Sleepy Hollow thing ... this has more detective parts in it. And while the movies sort of work as standalone movies, they actually only really work seen together (imho).
So it is quite difficult to understand how this will be (seen) by those who only watch this and not the other two movies. This is the middle part and we have become aware of the central characters ... we get more of them, but they stay "intriguing" to say the least ... Looks and sounds good, this seems a little bit more focused than the first ... but again, it may have to do with knowing the characters better by now.

Absolutely faboulos movie
The best Russian horror movie I saw, which could be the worthy competitor of western horror movies. I love the book and read it many times, I thought the movie will not be able fully describe the mysterious world of Gogol's stories, but I was excited from the first to the last minute. Playing of the actors are awesome, the special effects are fabulous and THE MUSIC! Just fantastic and already in my playlist. Highly recommend to see especially for lovers of Gogol's oeuvre.
