An entertaining mess that mixes Egyptian Gods and human beings in which the supreme God Ra : Geoffrey Rush has divided Egypt in two parts , the wealthy , prosperous region of River Nile governed by his son Osiris : Bryan Brown and the barren desert run by his another son Set, the relentless God of Darkness : Gerard Butler . But Set wants to take over Egypt's throne plunging the quiet kingdom into destruction , chaos and conflict . As during a spectacular coronation, Set kills his brother Osoris , then Horus : Nikolaj Costner Waldau , son of Osiris and Isis , escapes. Horus who blinded by his uncle is hidden and useless to carry out a merciless vengeance . Then Horus -The Falcon God- is unexpectedly helped by a young human named Bek : Brenton Thwaites who makes a deal with him to save his sweetheart Zaya : Courtney Eaton , who was taken captive, as she encounters in the infraworld to be judged by the death Gods . All of Heaven is at War . All of Creation is at stake . The Journey of a Lifetime begins . The most powerful force on Universe is about to be unleashed . The Battle for Eternity Begins .
A noisy and bombastic adventure with plenty of 3D computer generator special effects , mayhem , and total destruction . It is a cheesy fun in the Saturday Matinee tradition with abundant and overwhelming battles , noisy action and breathtaking fights . A loudy and crowdy epic movie about Egyptian Gods marred by its exccessive FX and lots of scenes with no much sense . Here shows up ordinary contrivances with giant Gods , impressive palaces that are destroyed by violent fights , witchery , bizarre beasts and enormous monsters . Main and support cast are pretty well . Along with newcomers actors as Brenton Thwaites , Courtney Eaton , Elodie Young , the recently deceased Chadwick Boseman , there appears veteran players as Gerard Butler , Geoffrey Rush , Bryan Brown , all of them are frankly well .
It displays a brilliant and sunny cinematography with full of color by Peter Menzies Jr. As well as a moving and rousing musical score by Marco Beltrani . The motion picture was professionally directed by Alex Proyas , though hindered by its overlong runtime and too much visual effects . Alex Proyas is a good filmmaker who has directed successful films such as : The Raven, Dark City, Garage Days , I Robot , Knowing , among others . Rating : 6/10 . Worthwhile seeing .

Attractive and colorful adventure dealing with powerful Egyptian Gods and fleeble human beings
"If I even tried to explain it your brain would liquify and flow out your ears."
The above Quote in the Movie from "Thoth" says it all.
But here's a Try, Nonetheless...
Outrageously Over the Top may be a Redundant way of Describing Director Alex Proyas' Vision or Version of another "Gods" of Mythology Film that have come "Fast and Furious" to Movie Screens in Recent Years. But this one is more "Fast and Furious" than any.
It Works so Well because, unlike those others (You know who),this Beautifully Garish and Gaudy Movie Never for one Nano-Second takes itself Seriously. It is Presented for Your Consideration as a Dreamscape of Pre-History. The Golden-Age and Speaking of Gold.
In this Fantasyland the Gods actually have Gold Pulsating through Their Veins instead of Blood and that Really-Cool Twist is Reflected in the Template of this Eye Popper at every Turn and every Level.
It is a Film Designed to Push, Stretch, and Reach for the Limits of Current Capabilities concerning CGI in Modern Movie Making. What it Lacks in Thespian Talent, it makes up for in a Grandiose Vision filled with a Colorful Vibrancy.
It's Artistic Scheme of Things Reminds of Comic-Books, Pulps, Heavy Metal Magazine, Computer Games, Poster Art, and other Pop Culture Splashes of Loud, Lurid, Luscious Displays that Attract Attention, if not Praise from the Cultural Elite.
The Tweaking or Embellishment of Egyptian Mythology is Clever and done with a Wink and a Wonderment from a Director that's Not Afraid to Take Chances, Tilt the Windmill, and Challenge the Film-Making Status Quo. Not Everything Works to Perfection but this Piece of Modern Art cannot be as Easily Dismissed by Uppity Critics and Knee-Jerks so Quickly.
This has all the Aspects of a Cult-Movie and while it is Currently Dismissed by most as "God-Awful", Future Reflection and Reaction to this Entertainment will be just the Opposite.
Proyas will be Redeemed as Time Passes, because this is a Timeless Treat for Anyone who can Enjoy Pure, Infectious Eye Candy that has No Pretensions of being anything else.
Lots of pretty girls; wonderfully captivating fantasy
Well THIS film does have pretty girls/women to look at! The world created does its job of whisking one into this fanciful world of gods and such.
I was looking at the credits for an entire army of CGI-people, but I didn't find them. OK, I think I found them now -- it's just that they have sooo many categories now! Perhaps they are getting smarter, and can do it with fewer people too. What a fabulous job-market for those with skills in art looking for work!!!!!!
The only problem I had was the sound mixing. At times, I could not hear the dialog because of the music volume! Ding one or two stars for this!
Gerard Butler is great as usual; and the other actors played well, but are unknowns to me.
All-in-all, a very adept and fanciful world to immerse yourself in for the duration of the film!
