Rather tired

GENESIS is a nondescript science fiction-themed B-movie, set in an underground bunker after a worldwide apocalypse has left the air above deadly. It reminded me of SNOWPIERCER a little in the depiction of facets of society breaking down and going on the rampage, but it's far less impressive and immersive than that production. What this amounts to is a bunch of actors running around in shadowy corridors, arguing a lot while a bit of action plays out. There are robots and gruesome deaths and John Hannah but otherwise it's all rather lacking and cookie-cutter, tired when it should be feeling fresh.

Return to Eden

In 2046 the "East" launched a chemical attack against the "West." In spite of the fact, it was stated as a chemical attack, "radiation" and" biohazard" terms unrelated to a chemical attack were used. People live underground but can enter the world wearing contamination clothing and a battery-powered filtered air Breezer hood. Not my first choice for a chemically toxic atmosphere. People leave the underground of Eden and look for supplies, although we never see them find anything. A food hungry anarchist movement is forming and then there is also this android thing.

The film was on the boring side. Characters were stock. It ended as if it was an open-ended pilot for a bad TV series.

Guide: F-word. No sex or decon showers.

What a shambles this is.

It serves me right for being drawn into watching something, purely on the cast list, when I saw that both John Hannah and Warren Brown were in it, I thought it's bound to be good, two excellent actors would never sign up to something bad, right? Wrong!!

It's a very ambitious film, with some nice ideas, the trouble is, that within minutes the obvious limitations are evident, and off putting. The budget clearly wasn't big enough, and at times it looks and feels rather amateur. The direction is the worst aspect though, it is so clunky, it feels dated, like a low budget sci first flick from the 90's.

Warren Brown's accent, he appears to be South African, British and Australian, it's quite impressive that he covers three continents in ninety minutes, I'm such a fan of his, but he's not great here. Hannah is the only decent thing, so a few points for him, and one for imagi ation. 3/10
