social media getting waked what's not to like

If there is one thing i hate in today world its social media, wanting an audience, living to get likes and subscribers.... this is how low humanity has sunk.

Its always fun to get a movie where low life idiots like that get waked.

This movie is for 12 year olds who want a thrill

Not good on any level. The basic premise of the movie is that a bunch of obnoxious Americans, fueled by unearned confidence and entitlement that only social media influencers could make believable fly to Moscow for an adventure. I honestly did not want these jerks to even survive the flight over, let alone whatever garbage they might get into in Moscow. The movie also wants us to take at face value that in Russia, men will attempt to drag you out of a well-lit club for evident nefarious, non-consensual activities, and if you or your friends have the nerve to refuse, you will be "cursed" by randos. So positive depictions of Russia and the fantastic impact that this must have had on tourism there aside, I guess we have to accept that "danger is everywhere." Also, what is the point of that ending? Who am I supposed to feel for? Am I supposed to forgive every idiot who contributed to this ending because somehow in 2021, it's completely OK not to see it coming that mercilessly "pranking" someone might have some negative impact on them? And is this all this was? Am I supposed to call this genuine torture a "prank?" This dumb plot is the kind of thing that only sociopathic millennials would embrace, because the rest of us recognize that messing with someone's psyche is bullying and unacceptable, and not a super-fun birthday "surprise-prank" that everyone watching will enjoy. I just hate celebrating these kinds of despicable characters in film. F this movie.

don't care about Cole

Popular social media personality Cole (Keegan Allen) does crazy stunts. Following popular demand, he goes to Moscow not knowing what his friends had planned. He brings along girlfriend Erin (Holland Roden) who has never left America other than Mexico. The group is going to an escape room run by Russian playboy Alexei.

Cole is deliberately annoying and I wouldn't mind him dead. That's my initial reaction to his character. I do wish for Cole to be killed right away and we start following Erin in her struggle to survive. I wonder if he could be played as a more self-aware character. If he's quieter and smarter in real life, he would be more interesting. His social media personality could be a performance. Instead, this character is not appealing enough nor smartly written enough.

The initial escape room is fine even with Cole's lackadaisical attitude and that attitude is frustrating as heck. It does have a sense of Saw feels. When the turn happens, I predicted the twist pretty quickly. The elevator shaft did throw me off for a stretch but I didn't care enough about the movie to think too hard on it. The reveal did not create any shock or surprise. That's the issue with this whole movie. It never made me care enough about these characters or their predicament. It's a problem buried in the film's basic genetics.
