Shy Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) is a social wallfower who graduates from high school with no close friends. David Elliot (Alex Pettyfer) has admired her from afar. With encouragement from his father Harry (Robert Patrick) and best friend Mace, he tells her. David and Mace are country club valets. They go on a joy ride with Jade and promptly get fired. Jade asks her parents (Bruce Greenwood, Joely Richardson) for a party and invites the entire class. The Butterfields are wealthy while David's father owns the local garage. David tries to ingratiate himself with Jade's father but various issues drive him to oppose the relationship.
Romances should not be this hard to make. This is a lot of romantic cheese. Gabriella Wilde is really beautiful and has the characteristics for the role. Alex Pettyfer has survived on his pretty boy looks for far too long. His character is not completely appealing and he doesn't make it better. The cheesiness can be made appealing if done correctly. This is not close to that.

cheesy romance done badly
BE GENTLE. IT'S MY FIRST TIME AND THE FLOOR BOARDS SQUEAK,
No one ever talked to Jade (Gabriella Wilde) while she was in high school because she was too beautiful and too rich. David (Alex Pettyfer),who has never talked to her, likes her as they speak for the first time as he parks their family car at the country club. Soon she joyously loses her virginity by the fireside. Her home has magical floor boards that squeak when you walk on them, but not when you make love on them. Be gentle it's my first time and the floor boards squeak.
Her mom (Joely Richardson) is supportive of their relationship. Dad (Bruce Greenwood) is not. The evil Dad schemes for Jade to be a doctor and go to Brown University. David, who is intelligent, plans on taking over his dad's (Robert Patrick) garage and hopefully he can stop punching a time clock.
This is a not a guy's film. Grown ups running around with sparklers? Falling in love forever on a first meeting. Having your first sex somewhere besides an automobile. Daughter not knowing what a jerk her dad is after living with him for 18 years. A mechanic with smooth hands. Seriously Shana?
This is a one star film for guys, 10 stars for women. Please ladies, don't make your man sit through this one forcing him not to chuckle while you have a Puffs moment.
Parental Guide: 1 F-bomb near end. Implied love making. Brief sheer fabric nudity. Were her straps still on her shoulder while laying down after she took the garment off?
Not original
And that is not because this is a Remake of an 80s movie (haven't watched or can't remember it, if I have),but because the story is so cliché and so sugar laden, that you might need to brush your teeth every 5 minutes. On a more serious note: Does anyone really believe that a girl like Gabriella Wild would go almost completely unnoticed through her school year? Yeah didn't think so, even if blonde is not your favorite hair color (same goes for Mr. Pettyfer of course).
Funnily enough there is also a sub story involving the father (that Pettyfers character discovers),that is almost completely dismissed by the end. Which sort of is OK, because the main focus lies on our two lovers (and the brothers of Wildes character in conjunction with family values and so on) ... I make it almost sound better than it actually is ... but if you don't mind the predictability of the story and everything that comes with it, you might like this
