Underwhelming, Horrible CGI

I love movies with Africa as the backdrop and was looking forward to this movie. The CGI was so bad that it ruined the flow of the movie. It was laughable. It's also one of those movies where the characters do every stupid thing possible in every situation. I ended up rooting for the vicious animals. Overall a huge disappointment.

Happy Happy ... Rhino?

Well probably not so much ... also I know that it usually goes hippo, which makes more sense than Rhino in the wordplay I used above. But as usually I try to find something that can maybe bring a smile to your face. Because this movie does not have many occassion where it goes that way ... be it because of the ... let's call it strange decisions the characters embark on or the theme of it all - which is quite a serious one and gets mentioned in the end credits.

Rhinos getting killed - which may not be any different than other animals getting slaughtered too. But this is a thriller with horror elements and it is about survival ... which one you'll be rooting for is up to you. I can see from the voting here, that many may not have rooted for anyone. Still if you suspend your disbelief there is enough thrill to be had ... and a message that even if you didn't like the movie is one you can support.

It wasn't as bad as the critics say.

Some of the dialogue was cringe and sappy, but overall this is a good one-time watch, even if just for the beautiful African landscapes and culture. The 101 runtime felt long for the story, but the pacing was decent enough, and the suspense picks up in the last half, that time flies by. The directing was great, as was the cinematography, and although the story was interesting and unique, it still had some plot and technical issues and could've used some tweaking. There certainly were some scary jumps and well done gore scenes. Casting and performances were decent and convincing. For a B film, it was a great production. It's a 7/10 from me.
