A Profound Depiction of Success Versus Happiness

This is Adam Ninyo's first feature film, and it couldn't have left a better first impression on a public Amazon Prime audience. It's professionally done. Not only was I very intrigued by the well-developed, coming-of-age storyline, but also mesmerized by the gorgeous cinematography and believable, profound scenes.

A few notable parts I specifically enjoyed were the tense scene outside the drug dealer's apartment and the pizza eating scene (very New York, haha) between the two main characters. Also, the scenes filmed in Riverside Park in New York City are so cleanly cut and almost euphoric. Ninyo's attention to detail truly sets the mood and captivates your interest. I appreciated the use of a frisbee as an allegory to the word 'disencumber' and concept of the film.

Even though some of what the director personified to the audience with a relatable theme became somewhat of a hyperbole (how many people would actually have the guts to rob a drug dealer to become successful?!),it really makes you think about the distinct, yet subjective difference between what happiness and success means to each individual. As I watched the film, the question that keep floating in my mind was: is happiness and success really intrinsic or extrinsic gratification?

In contrast, I absolutely love the dynamic between the drug dealer and the leads. Delving into the drug dealer's past and background really elevates the dimensional plot and makes you empathize. It's philosophical and truly has you on the edge of your seat towards the end.

The only aspect I was displeased with was the actual ending (why I gave it a 9 out of 10),which if you watch the film, is not necessarily considered a drawback. I genuinely wanted to learn more about the characters! This is without a doubt a huge accomplishment for Ninyo, especially with it having being shot mostly during a worldwide pandemic. I look forward to what Adam Ninyo has in store for the film world next!
