Come on

Amazing fact for such movies: that usually with each part they get worse. BUT THIS FILM IS NOT THE CASE. New interesting story, new adventures, new tests of strength. This film has not lost its charm. Highly recommend! It is recommended to look from the first part.

Greg's Lies Stack Up

Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) has been lying since the first "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and his lies have always got him in trouble, yet they chose this episode to harp on them. And by harp on them I mean the dad (Steve Zahn) says he's "disappointed" and never even uses the word "lie."

Diary of a Wimpy Kid part three happens during summer vacation. Greg and his best friend Rowley (Robert Capron) are on their way to eighth grade and Greg wants to spend his summer vacation vegetating in front of the T. V. playing video games. His dad wants him to do anything active.

He got a chance to do some active living when Rowley invited him to a country club. It was the perfect place for Greg to be because he could have fun and his crush, Holly Hills (Peyton List),was there. This country club plan of his was going to be interrupted by his dad because good ol' pops got him an internship at his job. Ever the liar, Greg said he already had a job at the country club.

That was probably the fifth lie he'd told and he wasn't done. Honestly (no pun intended),it was getting old. His lies were stacking up and why not? What was the downside to lying compared to the upside? The downside was that he may have to go to Spag Preparatory School, but that wasn't very likely. The upside is that he gets to do the things he wants to do.

I found the movie lacking in the moral lessons department. Frank (Greg's dad) never once said, "Greg you are a liar and no one likes or trusts a liar, and I can't trust you." I know "liar" is a strong word, but he didn't lie once, he lied all the time. Sure, the lies were uncovered eventually, but it was done rather weakly. Like anyone, I'm pressing my own morals upon this movie. Where I come from lying is a major issue, I guess it's nothing big in the world of the wimpy kid.

Good kids fare

It's summer vacation time, and all Greg (Zachary Gordon) wants to do is play video games. His dad Frank (Steve Zahn) is not happy, and sends him outside. With his school crush Holly (Peyton List) spending her time coaching at the country club, Greg decides to spend his time there. Only he needs to use Rowley Jefferson (Robert Capron) pretending to be his guest. That's because Rowley's father disapproves of him. Then there is Greg's brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick). He threatens to expose Greg's lies unless he gets invited himself to play with his band at Holly's sister Heather (Melissa Roxburgh)'s party.

Greg is most annoying when he's lying and scheming. It would be better if he had more reluctance to do some of these things. It makes him too unlikeable. However it's great when he learns his lesson. I guess that's what this is all about. His friendship with Rowley is at the center of this film. But it's also great to see that Holly isn't simply a 2-dimensional character.
