My Review Of "Devil's Junction Handy Dandy's Revenge"

Based on the synopsis, "Handy Dandy's Revenge" sounds like a fun, inventive splatter film. Individually each of the horror tropes actually explored in the film would, and should work fine. Unfortunately having killer puppet horror, supernatural occult mayhem and the added slasher elements combined does more damage than good. What we get is a jumbled mess of concepts with no logic or reason written into the story.

There really should have been someone on staff to maybe reign in Broadstreet's ideas. And of course do some background research and soundboarding of choices to see what works and what doesn't. A lot of what we see on screen doesn't work and nothing spoken by the characters justifies it. I didn't buy it anyway.

The acting is mediocre at best. Most of which comes down to underdeveloped dialog and exposition. Not even two iconic cast members are given enough to really elevate the viewing experience. I really don't think much about "Devil's Junction: Handy Dandy's Revenge" is understood by anyone attached to the project. And it shows with the quality of the movie we are presented with, I just didn't find it convincible.

Puppets, sinister Masonic motives and a large metal-headed killer in the tunnels could have been fun, gruesome entertainment. There just isn't cohesion or reasonable writing to explain why all of this exists in what should have been a low-budget horror about killer dummies and their evil master. Overall I was disappointed with "Devil's Junction: Handy Dandy's Revenge".

Nothing but wood and weird

Six people enter an abandoned studio building in downtown Detroit which once hosted the "Mr. Jolly and the Handy Dandy Show." Steffan Crane (Jake Red) 's dad (Bill Moseley) bought the building. It seems that Mr. Jolly (Bill Oberst Jr.) is not really dead and neither are the puppets. We find out that Doc (Danni Spring) works for Skynet and will one day bring down the human race.

We have seen the Puppetmaster thing done before. These puppets are better animated than some of the other puppet horror features, but the story line didn't make it real. The Masons? Seriously that is the best you got? Was that the real moon shining behind Bill Oberst Jr. as he points in the opposite direction at the blood moon?

It definitely was no "Puppet Master"...

Well, granted the synopsis of this 2019 movie, I can't really claim that I was particularly in much of any hurry to watch it. But then I saw that the movie actually had Bill Moseley on the cast list, and that definitely spiced it up for me and spiked my interest.

And now that I have seen "Devil's Junction: Handy Dandy's Revenge", I can't really claim that this was an impressive movie. It felt sort of like a knock off of the "Puppet Master" movies in a sense, for better or worse.

The storyline in the movie was adequate, taking into consideration the rest of the movie. However, this is by no means anywhere near Shakespeare, nor is it anything that will leave a lasting impression once the movie has ended. It was, in fact, a very generic horror movie that felt left over from the late 1980s.

It was a bit disappointing to find out that Bill Moseley merely had a supportive role in the movie. But truth be told, it felt like he wasn't even giving it 100%. Bill Oberst Jr., however, was actually quite nicely cast for the role of the character he portrayed. As for the rest of the cast, well it was essentially just faceless young talents portraying pointless characters.

The effects in "Devil's Junction: Handy Dandy's Revenge" was dubious at best. So don't get your hopes up for anything outstanding or extraordinary. And during the last scene of the movie I nearly spilled my drink, as it was so atrocious to behold and witness.

My rating of this movie is a mere three out of ten stars.
