Disgrace To the series!!

It you want to do a spinoff with these characters, that's ok. People won't have a problem as long as you stay true to the source!! This strays as far from the source as it could!! First off, the school is called Coolsville High in Ohio!! Second & this is a huge one that no one that put an honest review up would touch, Daphnie is not mixed!! She's a natural red head for crying out loud!! Velma is not rich like they portrayed her in this garbage!!! Has Ashley & the other producers, writers & director ever seen scooby doo? The kid playing Daphnie is also one of the "sisters" in the failed Charmed remake!! The acting, writing & storyline are god awful!! This is a short version of what the headline of this says!! If you are a fan of scooby doo & gang, don't watch this!!

trying to keep an open mind

Daphne Blake (Sarah Jeffery) lives a charmed globe-trotting life with her parents. She's excited to finally meet her internet friend Velma Dinkley (Sarah Gilman) in real life as she starts her school, Ridge Valley High run by tech mogul Tobias Bloom. On the other hand, Velma is apprehensive about Daphne's arrival as she's investigates a conspiracy at the school. Daphne is befriended by senior classmate Carol (Vanessa Marano).

I'm not going to say that this is misguided. I'm not saying that this is unnecessary. This is definitely not heresy. It's only Scooby Doo. The franchise has done worst. All I'm concerned with is whether this can stand on its own. Is it any good? It's fine for awhile until it stops being fine. It's probably a mistake to not have a tall redhead as Daphne. A bad wig is not as fitting. Velma is fine. The best part is the friendship. It may be a silly idea but the computerized couch is inventive and fun. The movie is perfectly acceptable up to that point although I would change the principal. Once it goes into the secret tunnel, the movie loses all its steam. The non-descript office building does not help at all. The third act seems to run out of money as all the ideas are executed poorly. It's a fun idea to do the eyes in the darkness but it's does so badly. The fight with the spider robots is stupid. The bad guy has to be the caretaker with an unmasking although the 26 joke is funny. It's the only fun bit in a bad third act. It's also extremely short at around 70 minutes which indicates running out of steam towards the end. This may be an interesting idea but an adult has to be in the room doing the work.

I feel the same...and ashamed.

I am not sure what it says about pop culture when a 50-year-old cartoon gets a prequel that is set in the present. The production is clearly intended for the younger crowd. It lacks any adult reference or humor geared to the older generation. Sarah Jeffery as Daphne was simply adorable and Sarah Gilman was, well Velma. There is your plot silliness and occasional statement on the coddling of students with light punishment.

Adult fans of the classic cartoon might find disappointment.
