You're right! I am smoking on zhe wrong end, because I have a very good reason.

I wanted to like this entry in the Pink Panther series but I didn't care for it as much. I never got into the film at all. They are looking for Inspector Clouseau who has been kidnapped. The first rate cast has a poor script to work with. The sights of the South of France is highly desirable. I love the cast but not the story. It's a weak entry in the film.

beating the dead corpse of Peter Sellers for a few laughs

Uggh!!! This movie is a wonderful example of a movie and movie executives with no soul (or brains for that matter). Peter Sellers, the original Clouseau died and some nitwits decided this shouldn't stop them from doing another Pink Panther movie. This may not have been that bad a decision, but they also decided to have it feature Sellers as Clouseau!!! Now, the way around this was to take clips and outtakes from the previous films and intersperse them in a new and completely contrived plot.

Why couldn't they just give it a rest and STOP making these movies?!?! The only positive thing about this film was that the film bombed, as the public was not about to be hoodwinked into paying to see this pile of crap!

Mediocre but not that bad

Curse of the Pink Panther is not the worst of the series for me, Trail and Son are much worse being shameless messes. Curse is mediocre but it does have some good things.

Pros: The film does look decent, the title sequence is fun, the music is wonderful, Ted Wass is good comedic value, Roger Moore's cameo is another bright spot and the part where Wass sits on the giant duck is hilarious. Herbert Lom is entertaining as Dreyfuss and Joanna Lumley doesn't grate like she did in Trail of the Pink Panther.

Cons: The story is very standard, slow moving and predictable, and the film is overlong. The script is fairly weak too and some of the gags and jokes don't work as well as they should have done. Sadly this was David Niven's last film, and he deserved a better swan-song, he is a good actor but he looks uninterested and bored.

Overall, mediocre but has a few good things to make it watchable. 5/10 Bethany Cox
