Shoe laces, window shades and other inhuman annoyances become the target of commentator Robert Benchley in this slick semi-documentary. Nothing has changed much regarding these type of products that often seem to be alive even though we know they are not. Benchley dresses in an old fashioned cop's uniform to expose the issues with every day fights with inanimate objects. Perhaps somebody should update this and add cell phone keyboards that automatically change words for no apparent reason as if some demon lived inside it, sometimes reading your mind but more often than not changing your perfectly sensible word to some sort of gibberish. That's an example of the Benchley way of exposing real life situations, reminding me of 60 Minute's Andy Rooney who pretty much did the same thing 70's through 90's style.
Plot summary
A police officer alerts his audience to the fact that inanimate objects can be as dangerous as human criminals. He then displays several offenders that have recently been brought in. Shoelaces, for example, have an objectionable habit of breaking at crucial moments. The officer proceeds to call attention to window shades, bedroom slippers, and other menaces. He also answers his critics who advocate reasoning with these objects rather than punishing them.
