Extremely well-made film, with very good CGI depicting the Baltoro area of the Karakoram in winter. Climbing movies - good ones anyway - are notoriously difficult to make as the real climbing itself is, in the case of alpine climbing in the Karakoram and Himalaya, slow, and hence the pace of the film as well. One climber described Himalayan climbing as long stretches of tedium punctuated by moments of sheer terror. And climbers - high mountain alpinists - are notoriously taciturn. The director does an excellent job of showing the inner life of these tough, but very human men, while not feeling the need to create meaningless dialogue. Silence does work in the case of this film. Very well photographed, and the Polish cast is uniformly excellent, while the principals also bear a striking resemblance to the real climbers - Bielecki, Berbeka, Wielecki, and others, the famous Polish Ice Warriors of the 70s, 80s, 90, and into the 21st century (read Bernadette McDonald's "The Art of Freedom" on Woyteck Kurtyka, on of the famous Poles).
The final climb seemed a bit truncated - I was expecting more, so I would say that the film was about 15 minutes too short. Other than that, this is well worth watching, and I don't really understand the negative reviews. The climbing sequences are true to form (I am a climber myself, and have been to the Himalaya),the gear, everything, and it is not over sensationalistic. Ranks right up there with another great climbing film, "Nordwand," a German film about the 1936 attempt on the Eiger North wall.
Plot summary
Maciej Berbeka makes the first winter ascent of Broad Peak in 1988, escaping death by inches. Andrzej Zawada, the expedition leader, announces a great success. Once they return to Poland, it turns out Maciej reached "only" the Rocky Summit, which is twenty-three meters lower than the actual peak located one hour away. Resentful of his friends' lies, Berbeka withdraws from mountaineering. Twenty-four years later, he takes a call from Krzysztof Wielicki, who also participated in the first expedition. "We have to finish what we started," says Krzysztof as he persuades Maciej to join the next Broad Peak expedition. After a long hesitation, Maciej decides to try once again.

Very truthful and thoughful film about winter Himalayan/Karakoram climbing
Slow and just why?
This movie is very slow pretty boring and why? Why would anyone just have to climb this in the winter? Climbing and having to dig a shelter in the snow to try getting away from the cold. Its very cold and he has some frost bite on his feet.
He thinks he climbed it but did not he finds out later on. So again he is at it. Why? What a cold waste of time and I wasted my time watching this. Its mostly all snow all white and watching someone struggle to breath because of the high elevation. Then to go do it again and some people lose their lives I fail to understand why? Just so you can say you climbed this?
Pretty good movie
Broad Peak is honestly a well done movie. The scenery, the story and the actors.
Back in 2013 I followed the events on social media and TV so it is pretty nice to see a movie which pays tribute to those who achieved this amazing goal and those who did not make it down the mountain.
Someone wrote in their review about long silent scenes, marriage scenes, and complicated story. Can't agree with that. You need it all to build the background of the story and ... this is european movie not an american blockbuster. But this is down to personal preferences. I liked that.
The only part I didn't like was the ending. Felt like it was missing something. I cannot tell what exactly though.
Watch the movie, google those people and learn more about the rich history of polish climbing.
