No reason to tune in

BIG BAD BUGS is another cheapo bug hunt movie in which a bunch of soldiers trek through the desert tackling randomly giant monsters which take the form of spiders, scorpions and the like. Such films are ten a penny these days and this one is no different, with lame-o CGI effects and indifferent performances from a below-par cast. Any reason to tune in? None that I can see.

Some people should just contribute to the movie industry by just being an audience.

It's easy to appreciate the artistic integrity film students who want to contribute something to the advancements of the world of Cinema, but some Jazzy industry no favors by getting involved. He's made for TV for straight-to-video movies made by Supernova for the Asylum are just so genuinely bad with characters so cliched and under written and badly acted that instead of laughing at the film, you are rolling your eyes but with the fear that you will end up seeing through your ears.

You deserve an award, and not the Razzie that this wouldn't even be eligible for, if you can get through even half of it. You can tell from the very beginning that this is going to be absolutely hideous because it starts off with a female military officer coming across a missing Soldier urinating, and he proceeded to just turn around and speak to her while continuing to do his business. She doesn't even flinch. The next thing you know, she's screaming outside the entrance to a cave, and a giant scorpion appears. The Scorpion likes to do the wiggle dance on top of a Jeep and that is probably the funniest moment in the film.

I once did a day-long marathon of films from the Asylum and Supernova, and the highest rating I could come up with was a 3 out of 10. That one was a masterpiece compared to this one, and patience is easily tested as you try to find something worth keeping your interest but just can't. This is also the type of film that you'll watch ones probably on your laptop because on a big screen TV you know it's going to look even more hideous than it is. There are some beautiful landscapes but that really makes no difference when the film itself has absolutely no redeeming qualities. This one doesn't even have the benefit of a familiar forgotten actor or a B star whose fame was fleeting decades ago. This is the type of film where you long to see the entire cast eaten or impaled by the various creatures that come out of nowhere, and that's a sign that the film is absolutely just no good.

Calling this bad is being far too kind

My main reason for seeing 'Big Bad Bugs' was it being part of my on going/on and off "seeing low budget films out of curiosity" quest. Expectations were conflicted, with the premise being somewhat intriguing if silly and with the potential to be a guilty pleasure. With it not looking particularly good and the low rating, part of me was nervous, but saw it anyway with an open mind and with the intent to not take it too seriously.

Which unfortunately was very difficult to do, because everything was executed so amateurishly. Making it an ehausting and frustrating watch. There was a serious temptation to turn 'Big Bad Bugs' off very early on, but being a fair reviewer who always gives films etc a proper chance and never judges something without seeing the whole thing (find it very immature and why people do it and brag about it is lost on me) that temptation was resisted.

'Big Bad Bugs' really is as terrible as the low ratings and negative reviews have indicated, actually being worse than what the advertising made it look like. Wanted a ridiculous if fun guilty pleasure, got instead a worse than incompetent mess and one of the worst films seen in a long time.

Don't know where to begin criticising, but the extremely cheap production values would be a good starting point. The special effects for the goofy and far from menacing creatures are especially risible, with the haphazard editing close behind. The script is pure ham fisted cheese, the excessive repetition gets tiresome and it's all deadly dull.

Story-wise, it is ridiculous with a lot of draggy pacing, as a result of paper thin, often unevenful and over-stretched story-telling, and clumsy and far from tense or suspenseful action. The ending is far-fetched and completely fails to engage or excite. The performances are dreadful all round with bland and annoying characters, Ted Jonas especially only shows one emotion which is shouting.

Overall, terrible. 1/10
