I'm a contractor

Ash (Ron Perlman) is an old-school hitman. He has lost a step to age, booze, Parliaments, loneliness, and few pieces of lead still lodged in his back. He gets his orders from Richard Dreyfuss via a Jewish Cleaning business. He accidentally befriends Famke Janssen who has issues with her mother.

At about halfway through the film the hunter becomes the hunted.

It is a decent film for Perlman. It is a great film if you enjoy watching Perlman polish and tie his shoes. (A device they used to show he is old school, but they only had to show it once.) Marina (Marta Milans) should have initially worn a blonde wig, as Asians prefer blondes. She would have removed it once Perlman entered the picture. It would have made a better scene.

Guide: F-word. Implied sex. No nudity.

Watchable, but very generic and predictable...

I sat down to watch the 2018 action movie "Asher" from director Michael Caton-Jones solely because I was given the chance. Not really because I was overly interested or in a particular hurry to get to watch it.

I mean, it was starring Ron Perlman after all, and I can't really claim to be much of a fan of him in any way. Don't get me wrong, because I am not saying he is a bad actor or unequipped to perform his profession. It is just that I don't really have any particular interest in the guy or his movies, as they tend to be not all that interesting enough to actually spur fandom.

"Asher" actually turned out to be fairly adequate, taking into consideration what kind of movie it was. Writer Jay Zaretsky had managed to make a screenplay that was somewhat enjoyable, albeit quite generic and predictable. Thus making the movie watchable once, but hardly a movie that you sit down to watch a second time around.

And I will actually say that Ron Perlman was good in the role of aging hitman Asher here in this movie. But it wasn't an outstanding performance, nor a particularly memorable one. But he was nicely cast for the role. And it was nice to see Famke Janssen in the movie.

"Asher" has a fair amount of action, and also a little bit of comedy to it. Not so much that it makes the movie stop being serious, but just enough to actually add a little comedy twist to the characters and some of the performed scenes.

This was a watchable movie, no doubt about it. But "Asher" is the type of movie that came and went without uprooting the action genre, and I think it will just as quietly fade into oblivion and only pop up when you check Ron Perlman or Famke Janssen's acting credits.

I really wanted to like it

The review that said, "If the writing was better, it would have been a hit." That sums it up. Everything else about this was very good - sound, scenery, physical acting. It's all there, but it isn't
