ARMY OF ONE is one of those ridiculous Hollywood stories that's so unbelievable it has to be true. It tells of some over-zealous American nutcase who decides it's his mission from God to travel to Pakistan and single-handedly capture Osama bin Laden. Yeah, you heard me. Sadly, in the hands of these guys, the film quickly descends into the level of farcical nonsense, with a bearded Nicolas Cage giving one of his very worst performances: completely over the top, stupid and unbelievable, and annoying within minutes. Even worse than him is the execrable Russell Brand, who somebody decided it would be a good idea to cast in the role of God. Yeah, big mistake...

Plot summary
Frustrated with the U.S. Government for its fruitless efforts to bring down Al-Qaeda's leader Osama Bin Laden, the eccentric middle-aged, part-time construction worker Gary Faulkner, after a personal visit by God himself, takes the decision to embark on an adventure in the badlands of Pakistan to get the job done. With the intention to bloodlessly capture and bring the infamous, yet, elusive leader to justice, Colorado's former handyman turned vigilante, will overlook his problems with diabetes and meticulously prepare for the long and perilous journey. Between reality and pre-dialysis hallucinations, armed only with a teleshop katana and a Stars and Stripes hang glider, this American samurai on a mission from God is determined to take matters into his own hands and succeed at any cost. Is he a hero or a crackpot?

Awful
God, America, Justice, Freedom, or an American Samurai in Islamabad
This is loosely based on a true story. Gary Brooks Faulkner (Nicolas Cage) is obsessed with getting Osama bin Laden. He is a part time handy man who skips his dialysis and hallucinates. He talks to God (Russell Brand) who has a British accent and commands him to go to Pakistan and kill Osama, but is not big on details on how to do it. Gary is befriended by Marci (Wendi McLendon-Covey) who sees Gary is a good guy despite his crazy tendencies.
The film is humorous with Cage playing a crazy guy in a story that is overly dramatized. He is a likable idiot (like my BIL) who can be the ugly American and get away with it.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
Very Positive message.
Nicholas Cage brings life to the character. I found myself liking him right away. Good supporting cast. Very coherent story line as well. This movie is not based on mindless action , or sex appeal, it really doesn't have too much profanity either. Just a quirky take on a odd guy that had an interesting adventure. I like it. In summary, if you want something easy to digest and that has a positive message then check this out. It was a nice break from all the ideological propaganda masquerading as entertainment these days.
