A classic supernatural horror film where a couple and their child are trapped in a house with a couple psychos. This is different than a home invasion story though, because it's more of a reluctant dinner party that goes bad and there are a couple good twists. There are also a few nonsensical moments and the epilogue is overly long, but overall, it's good enough to finish.

Good enough
Well, that was weird...
Not necessarily in a bad way, a very odd movie, but kept my attention easily to the end. I liked it. This is probably the shortest review I have ever left... I found it worth a watch.
Mundane and forgettable mystery thriller...
Granted, when I sat down to watch the 2021 mystery thriller "A House on the Bayou" from writer and director Alex McAulay, I hadn't even heard about the movie. So I had no idea what I was in for. But the synopsis for the movie sounded interesting enough, and it being a movie that I hadn't already seen also made me give the movie a chance.
But as it turned out then "A House on the Bayou" wasn't really a particularly great movie. It started out interesting enough, but then quickly took a turn for the worse, from which writer and director Alex McAulay never managed to steer the movie back on a proper course.
While "A House on the Bayou" was watchable, it just turned out to be a bit too far fetched, and I must admit that the storyline just didn't really sit well with me. It sort of felt like it was written by a teenager having to write a mystery story for a school project.
The acting performances in the movie were adequate, but the actors and actresses were restricted by the fact that they didn't really have much of a properly entertaining and interesting storyline. It could have been a much better movie if the actors and actresses had more solid material to work with.
And while I managed to sit through the entire movie, then this is not a movie that offered me much of any entertainment or enjoyment. And it is not a movie that I would recommend you rush out to get a chance to watch. Nor is is a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.
My rating of the 2021 mystery thriller "A House on the Bayou" from writer and director Alex McAulay lands on a mere three out of ten stars.
